JROTC Enhanced Essay Winners: 2016

JROTC Cadet Kylee Reid Places 4th in the Nation 

Cadet Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Kylee Reid, of Roughrider Company, Port Angeles High School,  was selected the winner of the John Paul Jones Chapter Outstanding Cadet award in March 2016.  In a tight competition, she was selected as the Washington SAR Outstanding Cadet.  She will receive both Chapter and State “Outstanding Cadet” Medals (a neck-ribbon award), Certificates, and monetary awards totaling $800.00.


JROTC Cadet Major Carlos Alvarez Places 2nd at State

​JROTC Cadet/Major Carlos Alvarez was presented with the Enhanced JROTC Essay Award for his essay, titled, “How JROTC has prepared me to be a better citizen of the United States of America.” Excerpts from of his award-winning essay clearly demonstrate why he was given the award. In his own words...
“JROTC to some is just a course, an elective that helps them gather credits for graduation. But, to me, JROTC is a way of life. I have learned to use the standards given to me and apply them to my everyday life. JROTC has helped me better understand what it means to be someone in the real world and what it takes to be someone in the real world.”
