The Color Guard attends many different events throughout the year, but very few are more satisfying than the citizenship ceremonies. It is a always a pleasure to see the happy smiles on the faces of these new American citizens, especially after they have raised their hands and finally taken the oath of citizenship. One can only imagine what it must have been like for OUR ancestors when they finally stepped foot on dry land after having been at sea for so many weeks.
The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is committed to being an active participant in citizenship ceremonies. It is a way for us to welcome and congratulate the new citizens, and it is also an implicit recognition of the fact that we are all immigrants to this great land of ours. Less important, but nonetheless significant, it is a way introduce these immigrants to our culture and to the manner in which our country was founded.
Pierce County Auditor, Julie Anderson, received the Silver Good Citizenship Medal for her committment and dedication to the citizenship ceremonies. She has been instrumental to their success. In the video, Bob O'Neal reads the citation while Washington SAR President Doug Nelson looks on.
